COLLAGEN INJECTION
Fine wrinkles, deeper facial creases, and depressed scars are generally improved by the office injection of a purified collagen material known as Zyderm or Zyplast. Common facial areas improved by collagen injections include the forehead "worry lines"; crease lines around the lips, mouth, and cheeks; and depressed soft facial scars.

A small skin test placed on the patient's forearm is necessary to ensure the absence of any allergy to the collagen protein, a rare finding. After a wait of 4 weeks, collagen injection may be safely employed as a rapid office procedure. An Immediate improvement in wrinkles and creases is apparent. Since the human body slowly and gradually absorbs the injected collagen, repeat "touch-up" injections are required at 6 to 18 months for optimum appearance enhancement.
