NASAL RECONSTRUCTION (RHINOPLASTY)
Variations in the shape and size of each individual's nose are genetically predetermined. Trauma at any age can affect the shape and growth of the nose, and breathing ability. Rhinoplasty is performed to improve the appearance of the nose, to enhance breathing, or both. During rhinoplasty, the bones and cartilage of the nose are reshaped, to form a new framework for the skin of the nose. Frequently, any nasal septal deformity is addressed at the same time. Usually all incisions are made inside the nose, and no scars are left. Occasionally, when the nostrils need to be narrowed or better exposure is necessary, small well-hidden incisions can be used. Nasal procedures can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia.

Rhinoplasty surgery is tailored to each individual to address: profile bumps, widening of nose, refining the shape of the tip, correcting deviations, and narrowing the nostrils. A small cast is applied to the nose at the end of the procedures. The cast remains for one week, and most of the swelling will be resolved when it is removed. Typically no packing will be placed inside the nose. In most instances, patients can resume work within one week. The final cosmetic result is not achieved until six months to two years when the skin has reformed to its new framework.
