Research Activities
The Head and Neck Surgical Group provides opportunities to participate in new clinical research projects for the development of new drugs, and new uses for existing drugs.
BOTOX FOR FACIAL LINES AND WRINKLES Dr. Andrew Blitzer and his staff have just completed a Phase 3 multicenter FDA clinical trial for the evaluation of BOTOX (Botulinum neurotoxin A) for the management of facial glabellar (frown) lines. This trial will show the safety and efficacy of the use of BOTOX for cosmetic uses in the management of facial lines and wrinkles.
BOTOX FOR TMJ PAIN (also called TMD) Dr. Andrew Blitzer and his staff have just completed a Phase 2 multicenter FDA clinical trial for the evaluation of BOTOX for the management of pain and dysfunction associated with TMD (Temporomandibular Disease). This study is currently closed. However, if you have this condition or know someone who might, and would like an evaluation by Dr. Blitzer, please call Terry Pretorius at 212-262-4444.
LARYNGEAL SENSORY TESTING Dr. Andrew Blitzer and his staff are pioneers in the development of laryngeal sensory testing equipment, and are currently looking at the testing of sensory pathways in the larynx and sensory deficits associated with various neurological disorders. If you or someone you know has a laryngeal disorder, or swallowing where sensation may be involved, the testing may help clarify the disorder. If you would like an appointment, or merely like additional information, please call Natalia Povzhitkov, Dr Blitzer's Clinical Coordinator at 212-262-4444.
HYPERTONIC NASAL IRRIGATION (ENTSOL - 3% SODIUM CHLORIDE SOLUTION) Dr. Yosef Krespi and his staff have just begun a study of hypertonic nasal irrigation (ENTSOL - 3% sodium chloride solution) versus normal saline nasal irrigation in patients with sinusitis. If you or someone you know has recurrent sinus infections and would like to participate with this study, please call Kimberly Gross at 212-262-2929.
LASER LARYNGEAL SURGERY Dr. Andrew Blitzer and his staff are developing laser fiber that passes through a flexible laryngoscope to allow some types of laryngeal surgery to be performed with the patient awake, under local and topical anesthesia. If you would like an appointment or merely to find out additional information, please call Natalia Povzhitkov, Dr. Blitzer's Clinical Coordinator at 212-262-4444.
MINIMALLY INVASIVE TREATMENT OF FACIAL WRINKLES Dr. Andrew Blitzer has been evaluating the combines use of BOTOX with erbium laser resurfacing and injectable filler materials for the management of facial lines and wrinkles. If you would like an appointment or more information please call 212-262-4444.
BOTOX FOR MIGRAINE HEADACHES Dr. Andrew Blitzer has been one of the clinical scientists who noticed a benefit of BOTOX injections in patients who suffer from Migraine headaches. If you wish to be evaluated for off-label management of Migraine headaches, please call for an appointment at 212-262-9500.
